A Couple of Thoughts about Minecraft Live 2021

Minecraft Live 2021 just wrapped up, which means it's time to share some of my thoughts about what I consider to be cool or interesting. At first, I think it's no surprise that pretty much no gaming event goes perfectly. There's always something that drags it a bit for a specific person: from cringe performance and clear fillers to technical issues with lack of appealing announcements. For me, it was mostly the first half as I don't really have any expectations this time around. Probably due to rather intense and rough daily routine.

I guess you can say that they were making up for the lack of new YouTube videos from those famous scuffed interviews from Minecon. It would've been nice to see Mojang not play it too safe for once and just embrace the memes... Anyway, I'll keep this short and focus just on two things, similarly to QuakeCon 2021. I'm out of the loop when it comes to Minecraft Dungeons to really comment on its updates, getting both versions of Minecraft on Xbox Game Pass is just good and Blockbench looks neat.

Mob Vote.

Honestly, I'm mentioning it just for the sake of it as I didn't really have anyone specific in mind. All three mobs were alright this time around. My first vote went to Glare since he was obviously an "outsider" in this competition and I just liked how this nature creature looked. For the second time I went with Allay train because "why not". Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be any drama and other cringe worthy events surrounding it this year... or I just didn't notice it, which is fine by me.

Mojang Studios appears to be doing very well when it comes to interacting with their community and providing options like these votes is a good thing on itself, but perhaps it's time to do something different from now? Personally, I think that mob votes overstayed their welcome. Just bring in those other additions from previous votes and, I don't know... Maybe look back at cat contest and let aforementioned creators come up with something new for others to vote? In case you really want votes keep going, that is.

The Wild Update.

Second part of Caves & Cliffs comes out really soon, as it was promised. "A month or two" is until the end of the year, but sounds better and I'll take it. Deep Dark getting delayed is a bit sad, but totally understandable and doesn't really affect this update on any negative way. I planned to go back to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition once it comes out and that still sounds like a great idea. How knows if that's going to be a plan I would be able to stick to as opposed to other things I've talked about on my blog, but I would just have to wait and see.

We're getting yet other awesome update, but there's one specific portion of it I want to talk about because I'm really happy to actually get it: Swamp update. Back in 2019, I was one of those who rooted for it in favor of Mountains & Badlands as I considered it a better option overall (and still do). I always have this odd(?) appreciation for Swamps in video games and seeing all these changes and additions feels really good. It also lets me suggests that perhaps Mojang will revisit again Badlands, Iceologer and other stuff from previous polls. What else can say except that this announcement is a nice and brief bright moment coming through grim shadow of last few weeks. That's dope and I like it.
